Old Idea Finished

melihitchcock_Nazzy_fin

Good grief. My “Ideas” folder was burgeoning with small sketches and doodles that I had plopped in there and forgot about. Most of them I chucked into the recycling bin as they were awful and I felt that future fuddling wasn’t going to amount to anything. Just a couple were ones that I wanted to finish. This was one of the Wraith King based off someone’s fanfic and how he was described.

Reddit’s SketchDaily – Betta Fish

Haven’t done one of these in a long time. We had to pull reference from the /r/bettafish sub. The one I snagged wasn’t the best of quality (lots of camera shake), but I liked the richness of the blue in it. The face also looked really grumpy so… here’s Grumpy Betta.

I really wanted to do a painting over the weekend but I was completely exhausted having worked two 12 hour day shifts doing inventory at work. There’s been no rest really. Today and this week will be full work days and I’m already tapped out of energy. That and my elbow and wrist are in pain from general repetitive stress.

Cartoonish Cougar

There were a series of photos I took of the mountain lions at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo that I found rather comical. Usually they are just sitting around doing… cat things: grooming, chewing on toys, pacing around… and actually that day was no different. But some of the expressions on their faces I thought were funny. So I decided to use them for tonights work. Just little expressive cat faces. ūüėõ

Animal Study

Last one today…

00001_Animal

Did this while watching Life of Birds for nearly half the day. One would think I would have painted a bird with how many hours I was listening to the program, but no. Here’s a giant cat. I have so many images from various zoo visits in my photography folder that I need to start using them for something. Enjoy! Oh, and photo for reference below. In case ya care. :B

Another color study

The more I work with Painter x3 the more I dig it! I’m unsure when they improved on their custom brush capture but it’s a huge step up from what it was previously! Much easier to create custom texture brushes and the layout makes it easier to find things. Plus I like the inclusion of the the jitter function for brushes. It’s a feature I tend to use rather heavily in Photoshop. I’m thinking the upgrade from 11 will be worth it this time.

Landscape practice

Need to seriously start painting. Been doing some color tests and practice with landscapes with Photoshop and Painter X3. Between nursing a sore ear, throat, and dizziness, general fatigue… not all that able to focus. Kind of sloppy but I’m eh… It’s a start.

Sketches / animal studies

Sketchbook_00052About a month ago, I ended up adopting a bearded dragon. I’ve always had a love of reptiles and wanted one in some form, but was hesitant to get one due to certain factors and not really knowing what kind of reptile would best suit my lifestyle. After doing a heck of a lot of research, I ended up deciding that a bearded dragon would be a good fit. During a conversation with a guy at work, I discovered that his son was wanting to sell his as he was coming into the more social years of his teenage self. So after much cleaning of my office, I went down to get the beardie. Hermes (I had to rename him because while I was there I discovered “she” was really a “he”) has been here for 38 days.

I must say, it’s been quite the adventure with this little guy. I’ve already been exposed to his first shed and first “let’s poop on mommy” event. But I’ve also had the opportunity to give him his first bath and his first vet visit (this just last week). Yeah, I know, that doesn’t sound endearing. Generally a vet visit is one of those things most pet owners dread. Unless you have one of those derpy dogs who loves car rides and is otherwise oblivious to the world around it to know that vets = bad. I get no such satisfaction being the owner of two cats. Not only is it required that I suit up in armor just to pack them into their carry cases, I also get to listen to the symphony of yowling for what amounts to a ten minute drive. Sometimes it begins even before my foot crosses the threshold of my house. Hermes… is silent. And getting him into a carrier is¬†ridiculously¬†easy. I also suffer no¬†grievous¬†injuries as a result. In fact, he was so blas√©¬†about the entire experience, he fell asleep on the way home. FELL. ASLEEP. The only time he got a little testy was when the vet was doing the visual exam and she had to burrito wrap him in a towel. He showed his displeasure by pushing his beard out but it ended there.

Sketchbook_00051So the vet said he is in good shape and I am being a very good slave owner. The only thing she was worried about was the fact he wasn’t holding himself up on his hindlegs very long. This might have stemmed from the previous set up he had lived in but she said that as long as I kept doing what I was doing with the calcium¬†supplements, ¬†good UVB lights, and feeding of¬†nutritious¬†greens, that in a few months he should see improvement. Oh, and his gut flora is healthy too. Just thought I throw that one out there.

Right now the little bugger is snoozing in his hide that I made for him this evening. He’s got it good.

Reddit’s Sketch Daily – Octo People

SketchDaily-035-BettaDrawing a blank on the regular theme for that day, but the alternate was to do Octo People. I had a sketch that was pretty loose that had gone unfinished so I resolved to finish it up that day. The bottom mermaid was cut off by my scanner though. For some reason it doesn’t like to scan the full plate but cuts off at a certain point. Considering how tired I’ve been the last few days, I’m a bit lazy at scanning the rest and stitching it together. So, cut off it is. Wee.
